They defeated Alabama 9-6 during the regular season but fell to the Crimson Tide 21-0 in the BCS title game. LSU used an opportunistic defense to set up the offense in 2011. The Tigers only gave up 11 points a game on defense and held opponents to single digits seven times in 2011. LSU returns 13 starters in 2012 and for many teams that would be a problem but LSU is deep in talent. The Tigers have the most exciting defensive player in the nation cornerback Tyrann Mathieu. LSU returns their top four rushers and four starters on the offensive line. They will have to carry the offense early as the Tigers will have to break in a new quarterback Zach Mettenberger and several new receivers. On defense several newcomers will have to step forward. LSU lost key players in every position on defense. The talent is here for another title run but, the new players have to contribute early. |
