Stanford ended the season in second place in the Pac-12's North Division, posting an 8-1 record in the conference. Stanford's 2011 Highlights included an October 1 pounding of UCLA, a 65-21 win over then #25 Washington, and a triumph against then #22 Notre Dame to close out the regular season. Among the key returning players for the Cardinal are running back Stepfan Taylor, running back Tyler Gaffney, tight end Zach Ertz, tight end Levine Toilolo, wide receiver/kick returner Ty Montgomery, kicker Jordan Williamson, linebacker Jarek Lancaster, linebacker A.J. Tarpley and linebacker Chase Thomas. Stanford has several quality recruits joining the team this coming season, including offensive tackle Andrus Peat (Arizona), linebacker Noor Davis (Florida), offensive tackle Kyle Murphy (California), offensive guard Joshua Garnett (Washington) and running back Barry Sanders (Oklahoma). The 2012 Stanford schedule features a number of great matchups, among them an early-season battle with USC, a game with Washington after the bye week, and a non-conference matchup with Notre Dame in October. Stanford 2012 Preview
New coach David Shaw won 11 games and reached a BCS bowl in his first season as Stanford's head coach. Quarterback Andrew Luck threw for 3,510 yards and 37 touchdowns. Stepfan Taylor rushed for 1,330 yards . Tight End Coby Fleenor caught 10 touchdown passes. Stanford averaged 43 points a game. The defense was great against the run only giving up 84 yards a game. The Cardinal must replace guard David DeCastro and tackle Johnathan Martin on the offensive line.
The 2011 Stanford team might have been the most talented in the school's history. Replacing Luck is virtually impossible and DeCastro and Martin have the potential to be NFL stars. Brett Nottingham is going to be the new quarterback. The defense returns 7 starters and should be good again. There is good talent coming back and Stanford should be good again but not as good as 2011. Nine wins in 2012.
