The team finished last year with a mark of 79-83. The team had high expectations still lingering from the 2005 World Series win. The team made many off season moves including bringing in new manager Robin Ventura and replacing controversial skipper Ozzie Guillen who made his way south to the Miami Marlins. The Sox make some excellent pitching changes that include team anchor John Danks, Gavin Floyd, Philip Humber, Nate Jones, Will Ohman, all conference Jake Peavy, Addison Reed, Chris Sale, Hector Santiago, Zach Stewart, Eric Stults and Matt Thornton. The sox will continue to build on some of their previous success that included winning the division by 20 games in 1983, still a Major League record. Another highlight was when Robin Ventura tied a Major League record as he becomes only the eighth player to hit two grand slams in one game and finished with eight RBI's. These are some of the great memories of the Chicago White Sox but, that's the past so come out and cheer on the South Siders to get back to their dominating ways this summer. |

U.S. Cellular Field
The home field for the Chicago White Sox is US Cellular Field located in Chicago off of the Dan Ryan Expressway near 35th street. The stadium hold just over 40 thousand after a renovation in 2003 decreased the seating capacity and dropping the moniker "Comisky Park". The stadium has a fan deck with panoramic view in deep center field and boasts some of baseballs best restaurants. The team recently added a new sports bar on the north side of the stadium as the surrounding amenities can leave a bit to be desired. The staff is friendly and go out of their way to provide a "best in class" fan experience. Of course downtown Chicago is less then 3 miles away so seeing a ball game in Chicago is a no brainier.
Chicago White Sox Looking Past Mediocre
The Chicago White Sox finished in third place in the AL Central in 2011, and they did not add too many new pieces to the puzzle in the offseason. They know that the Tigers are the favorite in the division, but the White Sox have some solid veterans and a group of young talent that would like nothing more than to compete at the top of the division this season. Having Paul Konerko (1B) will definitely help the White Sox again in 2012. Konerko batted .300 and belted 31 homeruns a year ago. A.J. Pierzynski (C) will also be one of the top players in the lineup, as he has a career batting average of .287. The White Sox need better production from Adam Dunn (DH). Dunn is notorious for leading teams in strikeouts, averaging almost 160 per season. He only batted .159 in 2011.Jake Peavy will be the veteran starting pitcher for the White Sox. Peavy's ERA of 4.92 in 2011 was well above his career average, and he will need to play better this year. The White Sox will move 23-year-old Chris Sale into the starting rotation after the youngster earned a 2.79 ERA in 2011 while coming out of the bullpen. The White Sox do not have much depth in their pitching staff this year, but if their starting rotation pitches well, they could wind up battling at the top of the AL Central.
Three Titles Highlight Greatest White Sox Moments in History
The Chicago White Sox have been based out of Chicago since 1900 and there have been a ton of incredible memories over that time period. They have won three World Series Championships and six American League Pennants. Many franchises would kill for that success and longevity. Here are some wonderful Chicago White Sox moments that are listed in no particular order: 2005 World Series Game Two Home Run. Of all the guys you might expect to hit a walk-off home run in the tenth inning of a World Series game, Scott Podsednik would probably be the last. Though he was not the slugger of the lineup, Pods had a flair for the dramatic on occasion. Boy, did he provide that this time. He drove a Brad Lidge offering just barely over the fence and put the South Siders into a 2-0 lead over the Astros. They would move on to win the Series and finally bring the White Sox back to Championship baseball. It was something that South Siders have been waiting on for a very long time. The 1906 World Series. The Hitless Wonders, as the White Sox were so humbly called back in 1906, managed to do just fine in the World Series. The heavily favored Chicago Cubs were expected to blow out the Sox, but it was not to be. The White Sox won the Series in six games and sent the Cubs off towards futility. The White Sox would begin a similar slide after winning the title again in 1917, but found their way clear in 2005. They still are looking for another opportunity to dominate the American League and baseball in general. The AL West Title in 1983. This team simply refused to be mediocre. Carlton Fisk led the team to a serious turnaround when they started the season very slow. They were in fifth place going into the second half of the season. Texas manager made an offhand comment about the Sox "winning ugly" and the Sox and manager Tony LaRussa latched onto the phrase. Few teams won more that season as the White Sox won the AL West for the first time in decades. This team was certainly one of the toughest in the White Sox long history. They turned around a season that seemed all but lost early on. Phillip Humber's perfect Gem. Though all the other items on this list seems ancient, Phillip Humber provided White Sox fans with a reason to remember right here in 2012. Against the Seattle Mariners on April 21, Humber pitched a perfect game. This is the rarest of pitching feats and certainly is something that the White Sox will remember for all time. Many franchises have never seen one.T he 1917 World Series Championship. In 1917 the Chicago White Sox faced off against the New York Giants and whipped them in six games. It would be the last World Series Championship for the White Sox until many years later, but it was a solid part of history.
