Temple 2012 Preview
The Owls return to the Big East kicked them out after the 2004 season. Since then Temple was a member or of the Mid-American Conference. Temple finished 9-4 in 2011 including a bowl win over Wyoming in the New Mexico Bowl. Despite the 9 win season the Owls had problems at quarterback. Temple finished near the bottom in passing yards in the country in 2011. Returning starter Chris Coyer must be more productive in 2012. What carried Temple in 2011 was an effective running game and a stout defense. The Owls rushed for 256 yards a game and were third in scoring defense in the country giving up 13 points a game.
Temple lost 1,400 yard rusher Bernard Pierce to graduation but return Matt Brown who gained 916 yards in 2011. Chris Coyer was an effective runner as he gained 562 yards rushing. The passing game must improve for the Owls in 2012. The defense returns only 5 starters from 2011. The Owls are in better shape talent wise before they left the Big East in 2004 but it will not be enough for a winning season in 2012. The Big East is a lot better than the MAC three wins for Temple in 2012.
