Florida got off to a hot start winning their first four games. Then they were handled by Alabama and LSU in consecutive weeks and they never recovered. The Gators lost 4 out of the next five after the 4-0 start and finished the season 7-6. During the losing streak Florida could not establish a consistent running game and that allowed teams to concentrate on the passing game. On defense the Gators showed some positive signs but the inexperience in tough SEC was too much to overcome. There is some talent on the Gator team. Seventeen starters return including ten on defense. Defensive tackle Sharif Floyd and linebackers Johnathan Bostic and Jelani Jenkins are as good as any in the SEC.On offense Jeff Driskell will take over at quarterback and some play makers must emerge for Florida to get back into title contention in the SEC East. Also the offensive line must show improvement. There were nine different starters on the offensive line in 2012. Second year coach Will Muschamp has some talent but it will take some time by the end of the season Florida will be a dangerous team. Look for them to get back into title contention in 2013. |
