The team plays its home games in Cowboy Stadium, which replaced Texas Stadium in 2009. The Cowboys are considered the nation’s team and with an NFL record 160 sell-outs, 79 at their former home Texas Stadium and 81 sell-outs on the road, it is hard to argue that they are one of the nations most loved teams. As of September 2012, the Cowboys franchise is the highest valued sports franchise in the United States and second in the world behind Manchester United of the English Premier League.
The Cowboys have had a lot of success since entering the league in 1960 as an expansion team. The first five years the team struggled and their first season would see them post a 0-11 record, but this would change starting with a 7-7 record in the 1965 season. The team would set an NFL record of twenty straight winning seasons between 1965 and 1985. In this span the team would make the post season 18 times, only missing the 1974 and 1984 post seasons, they would play in five Super Bowls winning two of them.
Before the 1989 season the team was sold and Tom Laundry, the only coach the Cowboys had ever had, was fired, this would begin a rebuilding period for the Cowboys. After a 1-15 season in 1989, and missing the post season in 1990, the Cowboys would make the post season seven of the next eight years; this would include three Super Bowl wins over a period of four years. The Cowboys are tied with their rival the Steelers for the most Super Bowl appearances with eight, winning five and losing three. The Cowboys last playoff appearance was in 2009.

The Dallas Cowboys did not live up to their potential in 2011, winning only 8 games. Tony Romo (QB) and company hope to restore the team to their place at the top of the division. Romo had 4,184 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns in 2011. He will need to stay healthy if the Cowboys want to have success. DeMarco Murray (RB) and Felix Jones (RB) will likely share time in the backfield again in 2012. They are both explosive running backs that can give defenses fits. The team also has explosive receivers in Dez Bryant (WR) and Miles Austin (WR). The two receivers combined for 16 touchdowns a year ago. The Cowboys' defense struggled at times in 2011. While they ranked 7th in the NFL against the run, they were 23rd in pass defense. They hope to improve defensively with the addition of some rookies that they picked up in the draft. The Cowboys drafted Morris Claiborne (CB) with the 6th overall pick. Claiborne had 46 tackles and 6 interceptions for LSU in 2011. The team also used their second pick for defense, drafting Tyrone Crawford (DE). Crawford has 42 tackles and 2 forced fumbles for Boise State last season. Overall, the Cowboys have the potential to be dangerous this season. If their offense can stay healthy, and if their young defense can learn quickly, then the team will be in for a good year.
