The Redskins play their home games at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland. Founded as the Boston Braves, the team changed its name to the Redskins in 1933 and moved to Washington D.C in 1937.
Between 1936 and 1945, the Redskins would make it to six NFL Championship games, winning two and losing four. After the 1945 season, the Redskins would have a bad run that would last twenty-five seasons, during this time the team would not make a post-season appearance and would have only four seasons with more wins than losses. With the merger of the AFL and NFL in 1970, the team made a complete turnaround, between 1970 and 1981 the Redskins would make the post season five times and playing the Super Bowl in 1972, which they lost to the Dolphins.
Some of the Redskins best years would follow as the team would make it to back-to-back Super Bowls in 1982 and 1983, beating the Dolphins in 82 and losing to the Raiders in 83. After making the playoffs two of the next three seasons, the Redskins would win the Super Bowl again in 1987 by beating the Broncos 42-10, which is the second worst defeat in Super Bowl history. The Redskins would go on to win another Super Bowl in 1991, this time beating the Bills 37-24. The team’s last playoff appearance was in 2012. Behind players like Joe Thiesmann and coaches like Joe Gibbs, the team has captured 13 NFC Division titles and 6 NFC Conference titles.

The Washington Redskins went 5-11 last season, but they may have a bright future ahead with their new quarterback. Robert Griffin III (QB) gives the team a chance to win in this division, and the Redskins hope that they can have success in 2012. The offense struggled last year. But adding Griffin III, or RG3, could be a game-changer. RG3 threw for 4,293 yards and 37 touchdowns for Baylor last year, and he is extremely athletic. This rookie will give the Redskins a chance to score every time he steps on the field. The running back and wide receiver positions may still be a question mark going into the season, and the team will need some individuals to step up and take control of these spots. The Redskins' defense was decent in 2011. They ranked 12th in pass defense and 18th in rush defense. London Fletcher (LB) returns for his 15th season. Fletcher led the team with 166 tackles last year, and the team will need his experience. DeAngelo Hall (CB) is a solid player against the pass. Hall had 90 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 3 interceptions last year. If RG3 can quickly learn the new system, then the team will surprise people this year. No matter what happens, the Redskins will definitely be exciting to watch for years to come.
