Rogers Centre
The Rogers Centre is the home stadium for the Toronto Blue Jays located in Toronto, Ontario. The stadium was converted from Astro Turf to live grass in 2005 and is located in the heart of downtown near Lake Ontario. The stadium boast excellent shopping and restaurants and has a large hotel attached to the stadium. The Sky Dome as it once was called is an architectural masterpiece with four moving panels and over 570 million invested in it. This includes a Skywalk that connects the stadium with Front Street, the main arterial road through town. The city has much to offer, so come out and enjoy a game today.
The Blue Jays Bring Canada Hope
The Toronto Blue Jays continue to improve as a team. They have some solid pitching and some good, young hitters. The Blue Jays will surprise some people in a tough division. Jose Bautista (RF) had his best season in 2011, batting .302 with 43 homeruns. If Bautista can be as good or better in 2012, the Blue Jays will be able to score quite a few runs. The 22 year old Brett Lawrie (3B) played just 43 games in 2011, but he batted .293. Lawrie has the potential to be a great third-baseman, and he will get an opportunity to play a full season this year. The pitching rotation should be decent this year. Ricky Romero hopes to keep improving after having a career best ERA of 2.92 last season. Henderson Alvarez started 10 games for the Blue Jays in 2011 and had an ERA of 3.53. Alvarez is only 22 years old, and if he can develop quickly, the Blue Jays will compete. The Blue Jays bullpen will need to step up their game this season if they are going to win the close games.Overall, the Blue Jays have a solid team, but they have to play 50 games every year against the Red Sox, Yankees, and Rays. A tough schedule will likely hurt their record somewhat, but the Blue Jays definitely have a bright future ahead.
Top Memorable Moments in the Toronto Blue Jays History
The Toronto Blue Jays haven't always been in the American League, but when they came in as an expansion team in 1977, they quickly became a fan favorite. Since then, they have had quite a few amazing moments - here are some fan favorites:
In April of 1977, the Blue Jays win their very first game and beat the Chicago White Sox with a score of nine to five. Doug Ault is the first hitter and hits a homer during the 1st inning. During the same game, he will hit a second homer. Jerry Johnson is the pitcher.
October of 1985 sees the Blue Jays beating the New York Yankees with a score of five to one. This win clinches their very first American League Division Championship. The pitcher for the complete game is Doyle Alexander, while Willie Upshaw, Ernie Whitt and Lloyd Moseby all hit homers.
In September of 1987, the Jays hit 10 homers in one game, setting a record for the major league. They beat the Baltimore Orioles with a score of 18 to 3. Ernie Whitt manages to hit three homers, and both George Bell and Rance Mulliniks hit two homers each. The remaining three homers are hit by Rob Ducey, Lloyd Moseby and Fred McGriff.
April of the next year, 1988 saw George Bell becoming the very first baseball player in history to hit three home runs on an opening day. The Blue Jays went on to beat the Kansas City Royals with a score of five to three.
September of 1989 saw the Blue Jays beating the Orioles four to three to take their second title for the Eastern Division. The Jays rallied three runs at the bottom of the eighth, and took the lead for the game. The winning pitcher is Frank Wills.
September of 1990 was the next big moment, when long time player Dave Steib pitches the very first no hitter in the history of the franchise. They beat the Cleveland Indians with a score of three to zero and eight batters are struck out.
In October of 1992, Toronto beats the Oakland A's with a score of nine to two, allowing them to win the first American League Pennant in the team's history. The A's are defeated four games to two during the American League Championship Series. Joe Carter and Candy Maldonado both hit homers and Juan Guzman is the pitcher. The Blue Jays go on to win their very first World Championship by beating the Atlanta Braves with a score of four to three in an 11 inning game. In the 11th, Dave Winfield hits a double, putting the Jays on top for the duration. The Jays take the series with four games to two.
October of 1993 sees the Toronto Blue Jays winning their second World Championship in a row by beating the Philadelphia Phillies with a score of eight to six in the sixth World Series game. The Jays are behind with a score of six to five when Joe Carter manages to hit a walk off three run homer, winning the game and the World Series. This is the second time in the history of the Series that a World Series ends on a homer.
In September of 2003, Carlos Delgado hits four home runs in their game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Delgado is only the 15th player in the history of baseball to do this. The Jays win the game with a score of 10 to eight.
