The Marriage of Figaro
Le nozze di Figaro, or The Marriage of Figaro, is a humorous opera that was written in 1786 in four acts by music virtuoso Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with a libretto in Italian by Lorenzo Da Ponte, and it is based on a 1784 stage play by Beaumarchais, which is the La folle journée, ou le Mariage de Figaro. It is the sequel to The Barber of Seville which already had a triumphant transformation to opera in a story by Paisiello. Though things doesn't flow smoothly at first since Beaumarchais's Marriage of Figaro was originally prohibited to be shown in Vienna, Austria since it lampoons the upper class of society and is believed to be treacherous during that period prior to the revolution that took place in France. But Mozart and Da Ponte were able to secure an official approval for their version of this moving opera. To date, The Marriage of Figaro is now considered one of the pillars of traditional opera and it is ranked at fifth on the Operabase's list of the most performed operas in the world. Beaumarchais returned to what he left off on his first composition and made a splendid continuation on it. A little back round to the story. The Count tie's the knot with Rosine but their matrimony was in discord because of his acts of infidelity. Figaro relinquished his profession as a barber and become the Counts' servant. He then became engaged with the Countess Rosine's maid who happens to be Suzanne. The Marriage of Figaro has four acts that showcase the breadth and depth of this talented cast of performers. The opera has a comedic side as it puts a spotlight on an ardent teenager, a devious aged maid, a drunken gardener, and a ridiculous juvenile. Enjoy this fantastic show today and get you're tickets today.
