The team finished with 96 wins and 66 losses behind manager Ron Washington. Coach Washington is in his 6th year and has finished in the top 2 sports for the last 5 years and has won two pennants. He has also been nominated for coach of the year for 3 years running. The 2012 Texas Rangers have their sights set on the World Series and anything short of that will be a disappointment. The team is solid all the way around with Josh Hamilton having and unbelievable year with a 4 home run game already. The team brings back Nelson Cruz, Craig Gentry, Elvis Andrus and slugger Adrian Beltre. Alberto Gonzalez and Ian Kinsler Mitch round out the infield. The team is picking up where they left off from last year and is at the top of the division already. |

Odds Makers Predict The Texas Rangers Will Win The Division
Last season, the Texas Rangers won the AL West, and they hope to repeat their success in 2012. With plenty of firepower in both the lineup and pitching staff, the Rangers will have a good chance to be playing in October. Josh Hamilton (CF) returns to a lineup that will be able to score a ton of runs again in 2012. Hamilton has a career batting average of .313, and he can hit 30 or more homers in a season. Adrian Beltre (3B) and Michael Young (DH) add even more power to the Rangers lineup. Beltre batted .296 will 32 homeruns last season, while Young batted .338. The Rangers' pitching staff was good in 2011, and they will be even better this year. Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish should help create a dominant starting rotation. Darvish was the top free-agent pitching prospect in the offseason, and the Rangers won big when they were able to sign him. Neftali Feliz will come out of the bullpen and into the starting rotation this year to add room for Joe Nathan, the former Twins closer. Feliz has a career ERA of 2.67 and Nathan is one of the top closers in the major leagues. The Texas Rangers should be in for an exciting season in 2012. The Angels may have added power when they signed Albert Pujols, but the Rangers have added some dominant pitchers to the staff this season and they still have the same powerful lineup. Once again, the Rangers will be the favorite in the AL West.
Top Texas Rangers Moments - Bizarre or Amazing?
If you're a Texas Ranger fan, you know that they have a bit of history behind them, but when it comes to their top most memorable moments, they might fall more under the bizarre category and less under the amazing. Here are some of the top ones:
- June 4, 1974 was Ten cent beer Night at Cleveland Stadium. In the ninth inning, the Rangers won a forfeit because of an issue between the fans and the players caused a full on riot.- In August of 1993, Robin Ventura threw a pitch that hit Nolan Ryan. The third baseman for the White Sox charged the mound and wound up in a head lock. Ryan got five uppercuts in before both teams' players got involved. In May of 1993 at Fenway Park, Jose Canseco took the mound and allowed three walks and three hits before blowing out his elbow, causing him to be out for the rest of the season. Who could forget September 11th of 2004, when a fan at Oakland started problems with the Rangers' bullpen? Frank Francisco got so angry that after throwing a chair into the stands, he, Doug Brocail and Carlos Almanzar all stared down suspensions. Of course, this is after Alex Rodriguez was named as the team captain in January of the same year - just two weeks before being traded off to the Yankees. Another memorable moment came during spring training of 1986. That was the year that the rookie Pete Incaviglia hit a ball so hard that it broke through the outfield wall in Pompano Beach Park. Even though the wood was rotten, the Rangers got a ton of publicity for it. Fans will also likely remember the incident in June of 2005, when the Pitcher for the Rangers, Kenny Rogers beat up not one, but two cameramen. The attach was unprovoked, and he was suspended for 20 games and even faced some criminal charges. Even so, his career was unharmed. It shouldn't be forgotten how in April of 1978, the pitcher for the Rangers, Roger Moret, became catatonic and stood in front of his locker for a full 90 minutes before being put in the hospital. Shortly after, his baseball career ended. In another April, this time in 1990, there was a rain delay at Comiskey Park against the White Sox. It took a full eight hours for the White Sox to call the game, which is no longer allowed and changed the rule forever. There are also the promotions of the 1980's that the Rangers' stated and other teams have copied that they can be proud of. From Las Vegas night, where one lucky fan was awarded a trip to Nevada, but had to leave from the stadium to the notorious "Farm and Ranch Night," which featured players having cow milking competitions.
It's a long list, and not always distinguished, but for fans, the Texas Rangers have had their fair share of strange, and amazing, memorable moments.
