Texas finished sixth in the Big 12, with a 4-5 conference record. Highlights of the 2011 campaign included pre-Big 12 conquests of Brigham Young and UCLA, and a 52-20 thrashing of in-state opponent Texas Tech on November 5. Among the key returning players for the Longhorns are quarterback David Ash, quarterback Case McCoy, running back Malcolm Brown, running back Joe Bergeron, wide receiver Mike Davis, wide receive Jaxon Shipley, safety Kenny Vaccaro and defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat. Texas has several quality recruits joining the team this coming season, including running back Johnathan Gray (Texas), defensive tackle Malcom Brown (Texas), linebacker Peter Jinkens (Texas), offensive tackle Kennedy Estelle (Texas) and defensive end Torshiro Davis (Louisiana). The 2012 Texas schedule features a number of great matchups, among them are a non-conference duel with Ole Miss, and Big 12 games against Oklahoma State on September 29, Oklahoma on October 13 and tough matchups to end the season with TCU and Kansas State. 2011 Longhorns Football Recap

Inconsistent quarterback play hampered the Longhorns in 2011. David Ash and Chase McCoy combined for 11 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions in 2011. Also injuries in the backfield hampered the Texas offense. On defense Texas was very good versus the run as they held opponents to 96 yards per game. Texas finished 8-5 in 2011 and has gone 13-12 over the past two seasons. 
The Texas program is getting better slowly.  There is some good talent on this team and a quarterback must step up for the Longhorns to improve in 2012. On defense they must replace four starters from the front seven but the whole secondary returns in 2012.  If Longhorns get consistent quarterback play and the front seven can be patched up a nine win season might be in the cards in 2012.
