Purdue finished the season in third place in the Big Ten's Leaders Division, with a 4-4 conference record. Highlights of the 2011 campaign included a 21-14 victory over then #23 Illinois, and a thrilling 26-23 overtime conquest of the Ohio State Buckeyes. Among the key returning players for the Boilermakers are quarterbacks Caleb TerBush, Robert Marve and Rob Henry, running backs Ralph Bolden and Akeem Shavers, wide receiver Antavian Edison, kick returner Raheem Mostert, cornerback Ricardo Allen and linebacker Will Lucas. Purdue has several quality recruits joining the team this coming season, including offensive tackle Jordan Roos (Texas), offensive tackle Cameron Cermin (Texas), offensive guard Ryan Watson (Maryland), tight end Jonathan Curry (Alabama) and tight end Carlos Carvajal (Florida). The 2012 Purdue schedule features a number of great matchups, among them are the Boilermakers' visit to Notre Dame on September 8, and a three-game set in October against Big Ten powers Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio State. 2011 Purdue Football Team

Purdue made some significant strides in 2011 the Boilermakers beat Ohio State and defeated Western Michigan in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl. Quarterback Caleb Terbush established himself as the starter over Robert Marve, who obtained a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA and Rob Henry. Terbush completed 61 percent of his passes for 13 touchdowns. The running tandem of Ralph Bolden and Akeem Shavers kept defenses honest. Bolden rushed for 674 yards and 6 touchdowns, Shavers 519 and he also scored 6 touchdowns. The defense improved as the season progressed and defensive lineman Kawann Short is considered one of the best at position in the country.

The good news for Purdue is 18 starters return in 2012. all the elements for a big season are in place. A veteran quarterback, a solid running game and a experienced defense. One area of improvement is in the passing game. The receivers are solid led by Antavian Edison but the Boilermakers need a deep threat to go along with the solid rushing attack. Another plus is depth at quarterback. Both Robert Marve and Rob Henry have seen meaningful playing time. Purdue if things break right could win 9 games and play in a New Year's Day bowl.
