Panthers Football  The Pittsburgh Panthers of the Big East finished the 2011 season with a 6-7 record, closing the year with a loss to SMU in the BBVA Compass Bowl. Pittsburgh took fifth place in the Big East, with a 4-3 conference record. Highlights of the 2011 campaign included a blowout victory over then #16 South Florida, a 21-14 triumph at Louisville, and a December 3 conquest of Syracuse. Among the key returning players for the Panthers are quarterback Tino Sunseri, running back Ray Graham, wide receiver Devin Street, wide receiver Mike Shanahan, defensive end Aaron Donald, cornerback K'Waun Williams, safety Jared Holley and safety Andrew Taglianetti. Pittsburgh has several quality recruits joining the team this coming season, including running back Rushel Shell (Pennsylvania), quarterback Chad Voytik (Tennessee), multi-position athlete Demitrious Davis (Ohio), offensive tackle Adam Bisnowaty (Pennsylvania) and linebacker Deaysean Rippy (Pennsylvania). The 2012 Pittsburgh schedule features a number of great matchups, among them are a night game at Cincinnati on September 6, a non-conference tilt with Virginia Tech, and matchups with the likes of Louisville, Notre Dame and Rutgers. Pittsburgh 2012 Preview 

Paul Chryst is the new coach at Pitt replacing Todd Graham. It was a season of close losses for the Panthers in 2011. Pitt finished 6-7 and lost four games by four points or less. The quarterback play was average at best in 2011 Tino Sunseri had a good completion percentage 64 but threw one more interception 11 than touchdown pass 10 in 2011. Running back Ray Graham returns after rushing for 958 yards and nearly six yards a carry. Defense kept the Panthers in the close games in 2011. Pittsburgh was stingy versus the run but had some problems against the pass. 
There were some serious losses on the defensive side of the ball only 4 starters return. The front seven returns only 1 starter. The offense will get better as 8 starters return including all of the top receivers from 2011. This is the reverse from last season as the offense will have to carry the defense in 2012. Quarterbacking and the rebuilt defense will determine how far Pitt goes in 2012 look for 7 wins.
