2011 Penn Sate Review
The Penn State Nittany Lions season was surrounded in turmoil with the Jerry Sandusky situation and the ultimate firing of longtime coach Joe Paterno, Despite the turmoil Penn State put together a solid season. They finished 9-4 and was in the Big Ten title race until the last week of the season. Running back Silas Redd rushed for 1,241 yards and 7 touchdowns. This was important as the passing game struggled for the Nittany Lions. Quarterbacks Matt McGloin and Rob Bolden were subpar at best. The defense played well in 2011. Penn State held eight opponents under 18 points.
New coach Bill O'Brien has a big job ahead of him in 2012. Just putting some distance between the program and last season's events would be a plus. The Nittany Lions return only nine starters and the heart of the defense was gutted by graduation. A plus is the return of Redd he can carry some of the load on offense. For Penn State to have a chance at a bowl game McGloin or Bolden must step up at quarterback and replacements must be found on defense.
