Oregon State took fifth place in the Pac-12's North Division, with a 3-6 conference record. Highlights of the 2011 campaign included a victory against Arizona on October 8, and dominant wins over Washington State (44-21) and Washington (38-21). Among the key returning players for the Beavers are quarterback Sean Mannion, running back Malcolm Agnew, running back Jovan Stevenson, wide receiver Markus Wheaton, wide receiver Brandin Cooks, cornerback/kick returner Jordan Poyer, kicker Trevor Romaine, safety Anthony Watkins, linebacker Michael Doctor and defensive end Scott Crichton. Oregon State has several quality recruits joining the team this coming season, including offensive guard Isaac Seumalo (Oregon), offensive tackle Garrett Weinreich (California), running back Chris Brown (California), wide receiver Malik Gilmore (California) and center Grant Bays (California). The 2012 Oregon State schedule features a number of great matchups, among them are a September 8 pre-conference battle with Big Ten power Wisconsin, an October matchup with Brigham Young, and conference tilts with UCLA,  Washington, Stanford and Oregon. Oregon State 2012 Preview

The Beavers lost the first four games of the 2011 season and finished with a 3-9 season. Oregon State was a young team last season. Sean Mannion started as a freshman and tossed 16 touchdowns but he threw 18 interceptions. It was running back by committee for Oregon State in 2011 and the Beavers only averaged 87 yards a game and 3 yards a carry. The defense gave up nearly 5 yards a carry in 2011 and could not get off the field. Wide receiver Marcus Wheaton had 73 receptions but only 1 touchdown in 2011.
Oregon State returns 7 starters on offense and 8 on defense. Mannion will get better at quarterback but the Beavers must improve their offensive line and running game. The defense must defend better against the run . The Beavers have an experienced team coming back in 2012. If the offensive and defensive lines improve Oregon State could go to a bowl game in 2012.
