New York Yankees 2013The Yankees are coming off another great season finishing with a record of 97-65 with a first place finish in the American League. The team is usually right up near first place for the last several years. The team is bringing back most of the star pitching including Cody Eppley, Freddy Garcia, Phil Hughes, Hiroki Kuroda, Boone Logan, Ivan Nova, David Phelps, Clay Rapada, David Robertsonand the star CC Sabathia. The ball club recently lost the team patriarch George Steinbrenner who had owned and ran the club for 37 years but passed away last year. The legacy of "The Boss" will live on forever with some 7 world series titles and many more pennants. The yankees have had some exciting high's and lows over the years but one memorable one was the pine tar incident when George Brett hit a two-out, ninth-inning home run via Goose Gossage to give the Royals the win but later nullified by home plate umpire for a pine substance on the bat above the 18 inch rule. The New York Yankees went on to win that game 5-4 and the rest is history. One of Steinbrenner favorite wins was when the Yankees swept the San Diego Padres in 1988 to win their 24th World Series. The team only lost 2 games in the entire post season and solidfying the team as one of the greatest of all time. The Yankees are sue to provide great pitching and awesome hitting as these have been the hallmark of the team since 1901. Come out and enjoy a game today and root for the Yankees or whomever the opponent is on that day. |

Yankee Stadium
Yankee stadium is the home to the New York Yankees, the stadium is located in the heart of New York in the Bronx. The stadium replaced the old stadium in 2009 and is more expensive then any other MLB stadium. The stadium has some of the best amenities in all of sports, including luxury suites, club boxes and over 40 different restaurants inside.
New York Yankees Will Be Solid As Usual
The New York Yankees did not make too many changes this offseason. But, they have plenty of stars and depth on the team again in 2012 and they hope to win their division again this year. The Bronx Bombers will have plenty of power as usual this season. With Derek Jeter (SS), Robinson Cano (2B), Alex Rodriguez (3B), Curtis Granderson (CF), Nick Swisher (RF), Mark Teixeira (1B), and Andruw Jones (LF), this lineup will be extremely dangerous. The Yankees added Raul Ibanez (LF), who will likely DH this season. Ibanez hit well below his career average last season, but he is still a proven hitter and will give the Yankees even more power. The Yankees will also have dominant pitching in 2012. CC Sabathia returns as the team's ace. Sabathia had an ERA of 3.00 and had 230 strikeouts last season. Phil Hughes, Ivan Nova, and the new Yankee Hiroki Kuroda will also be in the starting rotation. That leaves Andy Pettitte, Freddy Garcia, and David Phelps to fill out the last spot for the starters. The Yankees have a ton of starters and relievers, so if injuries arise, they should be able to move on without too much trouble. The Yankees are one again a favorite to win the AL East. With their dominant pitching, hitting, and team depth, they will have the ability to power through teams all season long.
Top Moments in New York Yankees History
Whether you love them or hate them, there is no denying that this team is one of the greatest baseball franchises in the history of baseball. Maybe it's the 40 trips to the World Series, or maybe it's the 27 world championships that they've won. Whatever their biggest accomplishments, there is no denying that this team has had some of the most amazing moments of any baseball team.
Here are some of the best moments in the history of the team:
In April of 1923, Babe Ruth hit the first homerun in Yankee Stadium. The game was a win, four to one. The team was able to have the stadium built because of the popularity of Babe Ruth, so it was often referred to as "the house that Ruth built." 1923 was also the first championship win for New York.
In October of 1932, Babe Ruth called his shot. In a game against the Cubs, Ruth grew tired of their heckling and pointed at the outfield, while telling the team that he would hit a homer. In fact, video of the game shows that Ruth was having words with the Cubs sitting on the bench. While this is the stuff of legends, there is no solid proof that Babe Ruth actually called his home run, but he did in fact, hit that homer during the fifth inning.
In 1939, Lou Gehrig had a day named after him. It was on July 4th of that year. He made a speech and called himself "the luckiest man on the face of the Earth." Two years later, he died. It is believed that he played his top notch baseball for many years while struggling with ALS.
In 1941, Joe DiMaggio hit in 56 consecutive games. That's every game that he hit for two months. The hitting streak started in May and kept going until the middle of July. Ken Keltner of Cleveland broke this streak.
The World Series Game Seven of 1952 saw the Yankees player Billy Martin making a catch that not only saved that game, but the whole series for the Yankees. The seventh inning saw Jackie Robinson hitting a popup, and Billy Martin made the catch. The bases were loaded and the Dodgers were unable to score.
In the World Series of 1956, Don Larsen pitched a perfect game. It was the only perfect game in the history of the World Series.
In 1961, Roger Maris beat the record previously set by Babe Ruth and created a new record for home runs in one season.
In 1976 in Game 5 of the ALCS, Chris Chambliss had a walk off home run off the Pitcher for Kansas City - Mark Littell. This took the Yankees to their first World Series since 1964.
Game Six of the 1977 World Series saw Reggie hitting three home runs on three pitches. This sank the hopes of L.A. for winning a championship.
Game Four of the 2001 World Series saw Derek Jeter becoming "Mr. November" with his walk off home run in the 10th inning. It tied the Series at two games for each. At midnight, baseball was played for the first time in November.
