Citi Field
Citi Field is the home stadium for the New York Mets. The new stadium replaced the old Citi Field and was built for the 2010 regular season. The stadium is located at 126th and Roosevelt Avenue in Flushing, NY. The stadium seats just over 40,000 and is slightly smaller then is predecessor. The stadium has a large red apple at the entrance to signify its relationship to the slogan "The Big Apple". The stadium includes the Jackie Robinson rotunda, a tribute to the great player. It has high arching ceilings and a restaurant called the Delta Club for corporate entertaining and larger dinning options. The ballpark is amazing and a true architectural master piece. Come out to game at Citi field and watch the New York Mets play ball.
New York Mets have put the controversy behind them.
The New York Mets still have some talent in 2012, but they compete in a very tough division. Jose Reyes (SS) is gone and he will be difficult to replace. The Mets will need a lot of offense from injury-prone David Wright (3B) if they are going to score runs this year. David Wright may be the best third-baseman in the game today. He plays excellent defense, but his batting slumped last season when he batted only .254, well below his career average of .303. Jason Bay (LF) also slumped last season, batting a mere .245. The Mets will need these two to rebound in 2012 and put up some big numbers. Ike Davis (1B) is another injury-prone player who can hit if he stays healthy. The Mets strength this year will be their pitching. Johan Santana returns as the clubs ace, after having an ERA of 2.98 in 2011. The Mets also have Mike Pelfrey, R.A. Dickey, Dillon Gee, and Jon Neise in a rotation that should be well above average. New York also acquired Jon Rauch, Frank Francisco, and Ramon Ramirez this offseason and their bullpen should be stellar. The Mets will have strong pitching this year, but scoring runs may be difficult. They moved the outfield fences in and lowered them a little for the 2012 season, but if Wright and Davis are injured this year, it may not help much.
A Slice of New York Mets History
The New York Mets have always seemed to be living in the shadow of the mighty New York Yankees. Because of the Yankees great success, the Mets fans have suffered a great deal in supporting their favorite team. Fortuantley, the Mets have had plenty of memorable moments to keep the Mets fans satisfied. There are plenty of wonderful Mets memories over the years. Here are several of the more noteworthy memories: The 1969 Miracle MetsNothing is more memorable to most Mets fans than the Miracle Mets of 1969. Up until 1969, the Mets had always lingered around last place or one place higher. As the season rolled on, Mets fans slowly started to believe that the team might just be capable of doing some great things. They eventually worked their way to a World Series date with the powerful Baltimore Orioles. Against all odds, the 1969 Mets upset the Orioles and sent New York into complete hysteria. 1986 Mets. Like the Miracle Mets before them, the 1986 team was one of destiny. They were extremely talented and probably a bit more expected winners, but they still fought through their share of problems. They took the series to game seven, but they won the World Series for the second and last time up to today. Mike Piazza acquisition. When the Mets got Mike Piazza, they got perhaps the best offensive catcher of all time. This guy put the excitement back in New York and brought the fireworks for the dramatic. For example, Piazza hit a memorable game winning home run in the first game back in New York after 9/11. He always seemed to have a flair for the dramatic and made Mets baseball fun again. The 1999 Season. By the time 1999 rolled around, the Mets had been out of the playoffs for eleven years. The fans were restless to say the least for a winner. Fortunately, this Mets team was delivering on the wins. The Mets made the playoffs and did so in epic fashion. In a wild card playoff game, Al Leiter was the hero with a shutout. Then in the National League Division Series against Arizona, Todd Pratt hit a huge home run to advance the Mets to the LCS. That home run was a moment that Mets fans will never forget. The 2000 National League Playoffs. The Mets winning the pennant over the St. Louis Cardinals in a near sweep was certainly a huge highlight for the Mets. They had not returned to the World Series in a very long time. It may have ended badly with the Subway Series from hell for Mets fans, but a World Series is still a World Series. The Mets were a solid team in 2000 and they returned the team to a winning attitude. The horrible series against the Yankees certainly put a damper on the season but it was a return to excellence for the Mets. Things have been tough for the Mets since then, but they certainly have the talent to get back to the playoffs again. I would not count them out if I were the rest of the National League. That is when they seem to play their best.
