Mariinsky Ballet
If you linger for grace and unparalleled choreography the world famous Mariinsky (Kirov) Ballet and Opera Theatre is a must-see entertainment event for you. Why not, especially when you will be treated to a spectacle like no other. Keep in mind that the Mariinsky (Kirov) Ballet and Opera Theatre is one of the treasures of Russia as it ranked in the top 6 ballet and opera companies in the world. The theater was the citadel of Russian ballet and opera since circa 1860 and has been the haven for Russian and global artists. The theater was restructured and opened in 1860 and was named Mariinsky Theatre in honor of the spouse of sovereign Tsar Alexander II, who is Marina. Over the years the theater's name was changed. In 1919 it was named as Kirov Theatre but in 1992 the name was brought back to its old name of Mariinsky Theater. The theatre is truly captivating and its flamboyant auditorium is lushly embellished. The theater is home to numerous world class performances already. The Mariinsky shows are some of the most interesting live shows and performances in the four corners of the world. Top notch and elite ballet masters and dancers such as A. Pavlova, M. Petipa, G.Ulanova, M.Baryshnicov and A.Nyriev already perform to the delight of the appreciative audiences. To date the Mariinsky (Kirov) Ballet and Opera Theatre is under the auspices of Artistic and General Director, Maestro Valery Gergiev, a recipient of international recognition for his excellence on his work. Various theaters in the United States will showcase the itineraries of Mariinsky Ballet on their much-anticipated world tour. They are set to perform their wares in the US this coming October in Washington DC and Costa Mesa California.
