Mariachi Vargas De Tecalitlan

The venerable and more than a century-old group Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlan of Mexico burst into life in 1898 in Tecalitlan. A pioneering group of talented musicians led by Gaspar Vargas and Manuel Mendoza and their successors in the preceding years helped the Mariachi Vargas De Tecalitlan maintain the band's popularity in the country. The group was full of activity during the 1930's as they were invited at the induction of the newly elected Mexican President. They appeared in a lot of movies and recorded their first record. Then for the succeeding decades the group recorded numerous albums of pasodobles, valses, bailables, polkas, and danzones. The group never ceased to evolve and is open to make changes for the better good of the music. The group's ability to adapt with various trends in the music industry and ability to master their craft with sheer dedication and hard work makes them durable and truly a potent force to reckon with over the years. In 1976, Pepe Martinez took the cudgel of leading the group by becoming the musical director of Mariachi Vargas. Martinez' compositions put on show his uncanny expertise of cadence and novel arrangements that highlights each of the musician's strength in the group like the soloist. This period saw the Mariachi Vargas make its enormous presence felt. To date the Mariachi Vargas is composed of 13 members who are capable of making fantastic music with various instruments such as violins, trumpets, guitarrons, guitar, vihuelas and harps. The group truly piled up a vibrant history over the years and their longstanding legacy is still in full throttle today.
