The team is coming off of a American Western Division Championship in 09' and second place finish in 2011. The 2012 team had a major off season acquisition of dominate and league MVP Albert Pujos and many more in 2013. The team signed Pujos who has had a slow start but is coming on as of late. The team also has power hitters Mark Trumbo and Torii Hunter who both had Allstar seasons last year. The team is expected to contend for the title and accept nothing else behind young pitching talents David Carpenter, Scott Downs, Ernesto Frieri, Dan Hare, Jason Isringhausen, David Pauley, Ervin Santana, Hisanori Takahashi, Jordan Walden, Jered Weaver, Jerome Williams and C.J. Wilson. Santana and Weaver plus Haren are the starting pitchers and the team paid them very hefty salaries, now they need to produce. The Angels have had a lot of success the last 5 years but at this point a championship is the only thing manager Mike Scioscia is focused on. The 2012 Los Angles Angels are sure to delight the fans with big time hitting and the pitching to back them up. Come out to the ballpark and see it live today. |

Angels Stadium of Anaheim
The American League West Los Angels Angles play all home games at Angel stadium located in Anaheim, California. The stadium holds about 45,000. This stadium is one of the older major league ballparks having been built in 1966, but has gone thru 2 renovations since then. The stadium boasts 6 bats in a unique form at the entrance of the stadium and 2 large Angles hats as well. The team is under lease until 2031 so it's expected to be home of the Angles for quite some time. The stadium has all of the comforts you are accustomed to but the one difference is the new LED scoreboard that was installed last year that has made the fans go crazy. It's also close to all metro rail and commuter services for easy entry and exit of the stadium. See this piece of California history today and enjoy a day at the ballpark.
The Los Angeles Angels Make Offseason History
After finishing second in the AL West in 2011, the Los Angeles Angels needed to add some firepower to their lineup in the offseason. The Texas Rangers, who took first in the division, scored almost 200 more runs than the Angels last season. But, the Angels were able to acquire 2011's most feared hitter, Albert Pujols (1B). The Angels hope Pujols can propel them to the top of the AL West. Albert Pujols has a lifetime batting average of .325, and he averages 37 homeruns per season. He should have an immediate impact and allow the Angels to score more runs in 2012. The Angels also hope that Kendrys Morales (DH) will stay healthy after being injured for most of the past two seasons. In 2009, Morales' last full season, he batted .306 with 34 homeruns. 20-year-old Mike Trout (CF) may have a large contribution this year as he hopes to earn the starting position. Trout has the potential to be a solid hitter in the Angels' lineup.Despite adding Pujols to the lineup, pitching may still be the biggest strength for the Angels. Jared Weaver is a dominant pitcher and had an ERA of only 2.41 last season. The Angels also acquired C.J. Wilson from the Rangers. Wilson had 206 strikeouts in 2011 and an ERA of 2.94. Dan Haren and Ervin Santana help fill up a very strong starting rotation. They also have a great closer in Jordan Walden. The Los Angeles Angels should be even better in 2012, and they will likely compete at the top of the division. They will need their bats to score more runs, and Albert Pujols hopes to provide plenty of hits and homeruns this season.
A Little Angel's History
Even with a few name changes along the way, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have had their share of ups and downs in Major League Baseball. Even though the teams name owes it origins to a baseball team from 1892, the Angels have been an integral part of MLB since 1961. The greatest year for the club came in 2002 when they picked up their first, and so far only, World Series but there have been many great moments and seasons in the history of the Angels.
The Angels first ever World Series
The 2002 season started with the Angels changing their team colors and ended with the biggest prize in baseball. A regular season record of 99-63 saw the Angels finish in second place to the Oakland Athletics in the American League West table but the team was able to take the Wild Card playoff position. This ensured that the Angels would be in the play-offs for the first time since they managed this in 1986. The post-season saw the Angels overcome the New York Yankees 3-1 in the American League Division Series and then the Minnesota Twins were defeated 4-1 in the American League Championship Series. This ensured that the Yankees picked up the AL Series pennant and set up the World Series against the San Francisco Giants.
Trailing 3-2 to the Giants, the Angels overturned a deficit of 5 runs in game 6 to take the World Series to the 7th game. This winner takes all match saw the Angels clinch the series, sending their fans into raptures. A strong period followed this World Series success with the Angels with 5 more West Division titles in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009. This followed on from the three previous West Divisions the Angels picked up in 1979, 1982 and 1986.
1980's Heartache
The Angels suffered a pair of World Series heartaches in the 1980s. In 1982, the Angels raced into a 2-0 lead in the race to make the World Series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Sadly for the Angels, the Brewers won't the next three games taking the best of five series in a dramatic winner takes all 5th game. Missing out by one game was hard for the Angels fans to take but in 1986, the Angels came even closer to reaching the World Series, missing out by just one strike! The Angels held a 3-1 lead over the Boston Red Sox and were 5-2 up at the top of the ninth innings. This lead was whittled back to 5-4 but on two occasions, the Angels were just one strike away from clinching victory and reaching the World Series. Sadly, Donnie Moore gave up a two-out, two-strike, two-run home run which handed Boston a 6-5 win. The Angels managed to tie the game at the bottom of the ninth but lost 7-6 in the 11th and a shell-shocked Angels lost twice in Boston as the Red Sox grabbed the pennant.
