Kentucky Wildcats

The UK Kentucky Wildcats are the men's and women's college athletic team of the University of Kentucky. They founded along with some other universities what is known today as the Southeastern Conference. The women's teams and athletes were referred to as the Lady Kats, but all are reffered to as the Wildcats starting in 1995. You will see onTV mostly blue in the stands as that is the team color and most times that are called the blue nation by the media. The use of the term "Wildcats" was first used when they beat the University of Illinois in 1909 after winning at champaign.  The story goes that a  commander from the military department from the old state university had amde the comment that the team had fought like a wildcats and that was the birth of the team name "Wildcats" and the name of the school mascot as well. As time went on the students used the term more and more and then the university adopted it.
