The 2011 Hawkeyes Season Review
The 2011 season for Iowa was deceiving the Hawkeyes had better talent than their record showed and Iowa finished 7-6. The losses to Iowa State and Minnesota were extremely disappointing and kept the Hawkeyes out of a New Year's Day bowl game. Quarterback James Vandenberg threw for 23 touchdowns and had only 8 interceptions Running back Marcus Coker ran for 1,384 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. The defense was steady but lacked the big plays at crucial moments.
Iowa suffered a big loss when Marcus Coker left school and Iowa does not have a suitable replacement. This is going to put a lot of pressure on Vandenberg and the passing game to carry the Iowa offense early until a running game can be established. Having returning wide receiver Keenan Davis gives Vandenberg a reliable target. On defense, cornerback Micah Davis and linebacker James Morris will have to come up big for the Hawkeyes to have a successful season. For some reason when Iowa does not have the best talent Head Coach Kirk Ferentz comes up with some of his best teams. The 2012 Hawkeyes could be that type of team.
