Cougars FootballA 49-28 loss to Southern Mississippi in the Conference USA title game kept the Cougars from a potential undefeated season Houston finished 13-1. Case Keenum had an outstanding season at quarterback he threw for 5,631 yards and 48 touchdowns. The Houston offense was the top rated unit in the nation they averaged 49 points a game. Charles Sims rushed for 821 yards averaging 7.5 yards a carry. Wide receiver Patrick Edwards caught 89 passes for 1,752 yards and 20 touchdowns. The defense was opportunistic as they had a +16 turnover margin.Coach Kevin Sumlin has moved on to Texas A&M and Tony Levine is the new coach. There is a big rebuilding job ahead of Levine in 2012. Case Keenum is gone along with five of the top six receivers. Charles Sims returns and he is the leading returning rusher and pass catcher. 7 starters return on defense. A plus for the offense is only one starter is gone from the offensive line. David Piland will be the new quarterback he has staring experience from the 2010 season. Houston still has enough talent to win Conference USA 9 wins for the Cougars in 2012. |
