For starters they dropped the Florida moniker and are now called the Miami Marlins. The team had picked up new manager Ozzie Guillen from the Chicago White Sox in the off season. Ozzie is a quick witted, no holds barred manager who never shy's away from controversy. He may be controversial but he does win games. The 2005 Manager of the Year had 8 winning seasons with the Sox and won a World Championship as well. He takes over a team with plenty of talent and with the addition of Jose Reyes and Heath Bell plus Mark Buehrle the team is expected to be title contenders. The team has excellent pitching as well with Heath Bell, former White Sox starter Mark Buehrle, Randy Choate, Mike Dunn, Chad Gaudin, Josh Johnson, Edward Mujica and last year Chicago Cubs player Carlos Zambrano. The Miami Marlins are expected to do very well so come check out a game today. |

Marlins Ballpark
The Marlins Ballpark is the new home for the Miami Marlins. The stadium opened in 2012 with wide fan appeal. The stadium has retractable roof with just over 37,000 seating capacity. This is a smaller ballpark by major league baseball standards and is located at 501 Marlins Way in Miami. The stadium is a unique design built with contemporary aspects and a fan perspective like no other. The stadium has some amazing works of art that date back to Miami's rich culture and eccentric night life. The Marlins Ballpark has become a destination sport for tourist and fans alike, come see it live today.
The Miami Marlins are Ozzies team now.
Other than the Washington Nationals, the Miami Marlins may be the trendiest team in 2012. They changed their name, got a new stadium, and were very active in the offseason. The new manager Ozzie Guillen, who often is surrounded by controversy, leads a team of solid core players and the Marlins should compete at the top of the NL East. The Marlins return a solid group of players in Giancarlo Stanton (RF), Hanley Ramirez (3B), and Logan Morrison (LF). Ramirez has a .303 career batting average and can hit 20 to 30 homeruns every year. Miami also added Jose Reyes (SS), who is probably the most dynamic shortstop in baseball. Reyes batted .337 last season and stole 39 bases. His speed allows him to steal bases at will, having 60 or more stolen bases in 3 different seasons (78 in 2007). The Marlins should have decent pitching this year also. Josh Johnson only started 9 games in 2011, but he had an ERA of 1.64 and in 2010 he started 28 games with an ERA of 2.30. They also added two new pitchers from Chicago in Mark Buehrle from the White Sox and Carlos Zambrano from the Cubs. Buehrle seems to have solid outings every time he pitches and the Marlins are hoping that Zambrano can keep his temper under control and win some games this year.Overall, the Miami Marlins have a new look, a new home, and a new attitude. The Marlins will be a fun team to watch and should be successful in their division. They may even make a playoff run.
A New Beginning Brings Back Memories for Marlins Fans
The Miami Marlins, known as the Florida Marlins up until the 2012 season, are a franchise that is loaded with many highs and lows. Not many franchises can boast two World Series Championships in such a short franchise life. The Marlins have always been better than they should be it seems. Ironically, however, they always seem to go through growing pains in between big years. This is largely due to the fire sales that have followed major success. Such is the life of wild MLB spending franchises. Whatever the case, the Marlins have become a very popular team among many, and have built a ton of awesome memories over the years. Birth of a Franchise. The Marlins were a solid team out of the gate thanks to a really good base lineup, but the city was simply thrilled to have a team. Florida had been ready to explode with excitement about the prospect of MLB coming in as the Marlins. In 1993 the dream began and the franchise was born. It was a great time to be a Marlins fan. 1997 World Series run. When the Marlins arrived on the scene in 93, nobody would have guessed that a World Series Championship would come by the five year mark. It was the quickest that any franchise has ever won a title and would stay that way until the Diamondbacks did it in four years. This 1997 team was a band of players that nobody would have guessed would win it all. They entered the playoffs as a wildcard, swept the San Francisco Giants and then moved on to face the mighty Atlanta Braves for National League supremecy. Shockingly they defeated the Braves by a four game to two margin and went on to face the powerful Cleveland Indians. It took seven games, but the Marlins pulled it off. They were World Series Champions! Acquisition of Pudge Rodriguez. In 2003 the Florida Marlins acquired Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez and the timing was absolutely perfect. Certain players were about to come together as the perfect mix once again and a World Series would result. Pudge was the glue of that mixture. 2003 World Series. When Pudge arrived, he joined a great core of players that many did not realize would end up being so good. Names like Miguel Cabrera, Dontrelle Willis, Josh Beckett and others were eventually household names. They were not back then, however. Whatever the case, these guys pulled off the incredible once again. Entering as the wildcard again, they beat the Giants and moved quickly to face the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs had them down by a 3-1 margin and the Marlins came back to beat them 4-3. The Cubs continued to suffer the curse that they claim to this day. The Marlins went on to face the mighty Yankees and defeat them in six games. Another World Title had arrived in Florida. Named Ozzie Guillen Manager. September 28, 2011 the Marlins hired Ozzie Guillen as their new manager. This move coincided with the move to Marlins Park and was meant to energize the franchise. Guillen has the experience and know how to get the most out of the young Marlins, and will be a huge asset to the team as the new era begins. Marlins Park Finally Opens - New Era Begins. The 2012 season saw the Marlins begin play officially as the Miami Marlins. Marlins Park, soon to be renamed once rights are assigned, is now the official ball park. This young team has many of the same things that earlier successful teams had. It would not surprise at all if they made a run for the playoffs in the very near future.
