February 10, 2003 - Brett Hull scores his 700th goal and helps the Red Wings beat the San Jose Sharks, 5-4. Hull is the sixth player in hockey to reach the milestone, joining Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Marcel Dionne, Phil Esposito and Mike Gartner in the ì700 Club.î He is the second-fastest to achieve the feat, needing 1,157 games to do so.
June 13, 2002 ñ The Detroit Red Wings win their 10th Stanley Cup in team history with a 3-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 5. Nicklas Lidstrom is the first European and sixth defenseman to win the Conn Smythe Award as the MVP of the playoffs. Coach Scotty Bowman rides off into the sunset, retiring after leading his ninth team to a Stanley Cup. |
