2012 Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings finished the season with a record of 48-28-6. However, the team was defeated by the Nashville Predators in the Western Conference Quarterfinals.  They hope that they can play better in the playoffs next season. The Red Wings averaged 2.9 goals per game this season, 7th most in the NHL.  The team was led by some veteran goal scorers.  Johan Franzen (RW) led the team in scoring this season with 29 goals.  In his sixth season in the NHL, Franzen also produced 27 assists.  Pavel Datsyuk (C) led the team with the most assists, with 48 on the year.  Datsyuk also scored 19 goals, and the Red Wings hope their veterans will play well again next year. Defensively, the Red Wings ranked 7th in the NHL in goals against, allowing an average of 2.4 goals against per game. Jimmy Howard (G) was a large reason for this.  In his fifth season, Howard had a save percentage of .920 and a goals against average of 2.12.  Expect Howard to play solid next season too. Overall, the Red Wings have a great mix of veteran players.  Look for them to be fighting in the playoffs again next year.
