Crystal Gayle

Crystal Gayle (born Brenda Gail Webb January 9, 1951) is an American Country Music Singer. In the late 70s and 80s, she enjoyed much Pop Music crossover success with hits, like "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue", "Talking In Your Sleep" and "Half the Way". She was one of Country and Pop music's most remembered female stars from that time period. She is famous for her nearly floor length long hair and was voted one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world in 1983. She is also the sister of singer Loretta Lynn and cousin of singer Patty Loveless. Although she is the younger sister of Loretta Lynn, her musical sound is very different from Lynn's, whose twangy, earthy and edgy voice gave a good beat to her best known songs like "Rated X", "Don't Come Home a-Drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind)" and "The Pill". Meanwhile, she is best known for her country/pop crossover ballads she introduced to the world in the late 1970s and 1980s. In the 1960s, a deep-rooted twang still was important to country music. Gayle, on the other hand, came into country music when it was going towards a more pop-oriented sound, showing up such glam-oriented stars as Lynn Anderson and Barbara Mandrell. These differing production themes gave her a less "twangy" sound, closer to other popular music styles of the time, than that of her sister in the 1960s. See Crystal Gayle LIVE!
