Progressive Field
The home stadium for the Cleveland Indians is Progressive Field located in the heart of downtown Cleveland. The stadium opened in 1994 is has pure Kentucky bluegrass as it's surface. The "Jake" as it is called by the fan elite was once home to 455 consecutive sellout games and as some of the best sight lines in all of baseball. The park has one of the most unique features including 19 light towers located around the ballpark that make it light up for night game like no other. Jacobs Field or Progressive Field as it's called now is a fan favorite, even if you prefer another team.
The Indians Starting Off Hot Again
The Cleveland Indians were hot at the start of the 2011 season, going 33-21 out of the gate. But the team did not finish well, and they fell below .500 to end the season. The Indians hope that they can finish strong in 2012 and compete in the AL Central. The Indians may lack offensive firepower this season. Grady Sizemore (OF) will likely carry the team throughout the year. Travis Hafner (DH) could help, but the last time he played a full season was in 2007. Hafner only played in 94 games in 2011 and he batted .280. Shin-Soo Choo (RF) batted .300 or better from 2008 to 2010. He only hit .259 last season, and the Indians will need Choo to return to form. Pitching will be the deciding factor for the Indians this year. Ubaldo Jimenez has not looked as good since he came over from the Rockies. But he did have 180 strikeouts in 2011. The Indians picked up Derek Lowe from the Braves, but Lowe has struggled in recent years. If Lowe and Jimenez can bounce back in 2012, then the Indians will be competitive. The Indians lack depth and talent in both their starting rotation and their bullpen. The club needs to find some consistency and stay healthy if they want to compete in the AL Central this season.
