Great American Ballpark
The great American Ballpark is the home to the Cincinnati Reds and is located in Cincinnati, Ohio. The stadium was built in 2003 and replaced the old Riverfront Stadium. The stadium holds just over 42,000 and is located at 100 Joe Nuxhall Way in Cincinnati, Ohio. The stadium has some very unique features including "the gap", which is a opening in the left field bleachers that has a concourse that patrons can walk across and view Sycamore Street and the cities skyline. The stadium has one of the largest score boards in the major leagues and River Boat deck in center field. The team has made a conscious effort to make the over all fan experience engaging at this ballpark. The food in good and their is mass transit just steps away. Come see this stadium and enjoy a day at the park.
Cincinnati Reds look to the future.
After locking up Joey Votto (1B) and Brandon Phillips (2B) long-term, the Cincinnati Reds are looking to take control of the National League Central and make a playoff run in 2012. The Reds feel that they are the best in the division and they have a strong lineup of hitters and solid pitching. They also have a relatively strong bullpen and should have an exciting season as long as they stay healthy. Votto, the 2010 NL MVP, batted .309 last season with 29 homeruns, and leads a team of relatively young hitters like Jay Bruce (RF), Zack Cozart (SS), Drew Stubbs (CF), and Devin Mesoraco (C). Bruce hit 32 homeruns last season to lead the team. The 2012 Reds are balanced out by a group of veteran players like Scott Rolen (3B), Ryan Ludwick (OF), Miguel Cairo (3B), and Ryan Hanigan (C). If Rolen and Ludwick stay healthy, they will surely add experience to this young lineup. With Hanigan likely catching for the veteran pitchers, he will split time with the rookie Mesoraco. The Reds look to have a strong starting rotation with veterans Johnny Cueto and Bronson Arroyo leading the staff. Homer Bailey , Mike Leake, and newcomer Mat Latos add youth to a rotation that should be better in 2012. In 2011, Cueto led the team with an ERA of 2.31, while Leake had the most wins (12). The Reds bullpen also has depth and is anchored by Aroldis Chapman, the 100 mph fire-baller who famously threw a pitch 105 mph last season. Overall, if the backend of the reds rotation can hold strong, the Reds should be in for a good season. Manager Dusty Baker may be on the hot seat if he cannot live up to expectations.
Five Great Moments in Cincinnati Reds History
With five World Series Titles to their credit, the Cincinnati Reds are one of the most important and storied franchises in baseball. They have been a model franchise for longevity as well as class in the organization, and they certainly know a thing or two about winning baseball. Over the years, they have had some of the best memories of any ball club in the game. Here is a look at five outstanding moments in Cincinnati Reds history: Ken Griffey Jr. hits his 600th home run. Griffey Jr. has always been one of the most popular Cincinnati Reds in history. Though many felt he might not make it through to 600 home runs, he showed them all how wrong they were. Not only did he slug number 600, but he did it after returning home to his beloved Cincinnati Reds. Hitting it in the Reds uniform was special in every way to Reds fans. He ended up with 630 home runs in his incredible career. Pete Rose getting the hits record. Mr. Rose has plenty of moments that could be on this list, but his hits record was perhaps the greatest. Nobody in the history of our great game has had more hits than Charlie Hustle. Pete Rose is a legend for a good reason, and his eventual ban from baseball for gambling won't change that. The great Pete Rose will live on forever in Red's lore. The Big Red Machine goes back to back. In the seventies, the Big Red Machine was unstoppable. During the 1975 and 1976 season, they were simply unbeatable at times winning back to back World Series Championships. With legendary coach Sparky Anderson pulling the strings, they were able to find the perfect mix of players. It made them one of the greatest teams of all time. Billy Hatcher goes off out of nowhereIn the 1990 World Series, Billy Hatcher suddenly caught fire. He got seven hits in a row during the World Series and eventually finished with an incredible .750 batting average for the Series. Lots of guys have come and gone and not been able to accomplish such a feat. It was one of the most incredible performances in recent history. George Foster and his MVP performance in 1977. George Foster was a guy that you simply could not look away from. His 52 home runs and MVP award were rather incredible in his day. While some guys had steroid enhanced numbers to approach this, Foster did it during a time when he was almost certainly clean. His performance was one that will go down as one of the finest in MLB history. Though these five moments are among the greatest in Cincinnati Reds history, other Reds fans might pick five others. The long and storied history of the franchise ensures that memories are added every single season. Over time, the moments will merge and blend into a beautiful mix of baseball lore that will feed generations to come.
