The team was founded in the early nineteen hundreds and was owned by the Tribune Company for the last few decades. The team changer ownership in 09' and the Ricketts family has brought in new team president Theo Epstein to over see all baseball operation. The 2013 Chicago Cubs are coming off a disappointing season with just 79 wins and 102 loses. The team let interim turned manager Mike Quade go and hired Dale Sveum as the 2012 manager. Dale comes from the Milwaukee Brewers and is a former player. The Cubs have solid hitting from Geovany Sota and Alfonso Soriano who hit over 140 RBI's between the both of them. Starlin Castro is having all-star numbers in the first half of the season so lets hope that continues. The team brings back solid pitching in Ryan Dempster and Matt Garza and rounds out the rest of the pitchers including Michael Bowden, Shawn Camp, Casey Coleman, Rafael Dolis, Paul Maholm, Scott Maine, James Russell, Jeff Samardzija, Chris Volstad and former Chicago Cub Kerry Wood. The team just brought up some players from their farm system. The Cubs have put considerable effort into improving the farm system under the new president. The Chicago Cubs are looking to make an impact on the National League Central Division, so come out and enjoy a game at Wrigley Field today.

Wrigley Field
Wrigley Field in home to the Chicago Cubs. The team plays half of its home games there and is know as "the friendly confines". Wrigley is named after former owner William Wrigley and has had some minor renovations in recent years. Ownership is hoping for a major face lift of the ballpark but has yet to agree on the level of the city of Chicago participation. The team is hoping to tap into the amusement tax revenue but that decision may lie with new mayor Rahm Emanuel. That aside, Wrigley is an intimate ballpark that is a can't miss for die hard Cubs elite and the casual out of town fan as well.
Chicago Cubs a team in transition.
The Chicago Cubs may struggle in the 2012 season. Most of the hype surrounding the Cubs has to do with Theo Epstein, the clubs new president. Epstein was rated the number 3 GM/Executive in all of sports by Sports Illustrated in 2009. But Epstein's changes will take time, and it does not seem likely that the Cubs with be competitive in 2012. In the offseason, the Cubs lost many of their best players like Aramis Ramirez (3B), Sean Marshall (P), Carlos Pena (1B), and Carlos Zambrano (SP). They did not add to much firepower either, only picking up Ian Stewart (3B), David DeJesus (RF), and Paul Maholm (SP). DeJesus has historically batted well, however he only hit .240 last season. The Cubs also still have Alfonso Soriano (LF), but trade rumors are hinting that he may soon be gone. One bright spot is the 22 year old SS Starlin Castro. In 2009, Castro batted .300, and last year he batted .307 with 36 doubles. This kid is also a solid fielder with a lot of range in both directions. No matter what happens to the Cubs this season, Castro will certainly be entertaining to watch. The Chicago Cubs have some strong pitchers in Jeff Samardzija, Paul Maholm, Chris Volstad, Ryan Dempser, and Matt Garza. They hope that their starting pitching rotation can carry the team this season.
The Torture of Chicago Cubs History
The Chicago Cubs started off like a team that would never be out of the playoff races. They won back to back World Championships in 1907 and 1908 and then the torture begins. While they experienced a bit of excitement over the years of course, the vast majority of memories following this led to heartbreak. Chicago has long been considered a franchise that is cursed, and it is starting to make a bit of sense. They have not won a Championship since that last one in 1908 and they have not even been to a World Series since 1945. Are they cursed? Here are some memories that might make you wonder if you are a Cubs fan: The Corked Bat Incident. Steroid allegations aside, Sammy Sosa was the Cubs for a number of years and he was insanely popular throughout the world. He was just as popular as Mark McGwire during the race to break Roger Maris record in 1998. In 2003, however, Sosa was caught using a corked bat leading to a suspension and ejection from the game. The bat was supposed to be his "batting practice bat" and he grabbed it by accident. Some believed that and others did not, but his reputation and the Cubs took a hit. Greg Maddux bolts for the Braves. When Greg Maddux left the Chicago Cubs, he was about as good a pitcher as there was in the league. He had stated that he wanted to go to the team that had a chance to win, and the Braves certainly fit that mold. The Cubs, however, lost their heart and soul that year. Maddux was the only real solid pitcher they had and he never got properly replaced. No bull! Okay, so the Cubs made it to the postseason in 1984 and it was the first time in nearly forty years. The team made it all the way to the NLCS and was up two game to none. The Padres battled back to tie it as the Cubs started letting it slip away. In the final game, the Cubs had them beat again with a 3-0 lead. Several hits later and a horrible error by Leon Bull Durham put the Cubs in a hole they could not get out of. The series went to the Padres and the Cubs were still waiting. 1969Ernie Banks, Fergie Jenkins, Ron Santo, Randy Hundley, Billy Williams...These are the names that dotted the roster of the 1969 Chicago Cubs. To say they were loaded is an understatement of epic proportions. They played that way too, until the end of the season. In mid-August they were up by 8.5 games on the competition. It looked like nothing could stop the Cubbies. Instead, the Cubs flopped and lost 17 of the last 25 games to give the division to the Mets. A black cat was to blame for that one. The Fan 2003...five outs from a World Series...Moises Alou leaps...fan deflects...Cubs lose their minds. This was the worst of all in my mind. The Cubs had it won and a fan had to interfere with that pop up. It could have changed history but instead, the curse continued.
