2013 Panthers

The Carolina Panthers went 6-10 and finished in third place in the NFC South in 2011. But, the team has a bright future, and they hope to keep improving in 2012. Cam Newton (QB) was electrifying last season, surpassing virtually every expectation. Newton passed for 4,051 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also had 706 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.  Newton can do many different things, and he should be even better this season.  DeAngelo Williams (RB) and Jonathan Stewart (RB) will split time in the backfield again.  Steve Smith (WR) will be the top weapon at receiver after having 79 receptions for 1,394 yards last season. The Panthers' defense has some room for improvement.  The team ranked 24th in pass defense and 25th in run defense last season.  The veteran James Anderson (LB) led the team in tackles with 145 last year, and he will need to lead this defense again in 2012.  The Panthers picked up Luke Kuechly (LB) with the 9th overall pick of the NFL draft. Kuechly had 191 tackles and 3 interceptions for Boston College last season. They hope that he can help strengthen the defense this year. Overall, the Panthers should be exciting to watch on the offensive side of the ball.  If their defense plays better, then the Panthers will surprise a lot of people this season.
