College Sports Spotlight: Virginia Military Keydets
The Virginia Military Institute in Lexington is home to the Keydets intercollegiate athletic teams. The Virginia Military Institute is a participating member of the NCAA Division 1 and competes in the Big South Conference. The sports the men field teams in are baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, lacrosse, rifle, soccer, swimming & diving, track & field, and wrestling. The sports the women field teams in are cross-country, rifle, soccer, swimming & diving, track & field, and water polo.
The Keydets official mascot is “Moe” the kangaroo. Over the years, there have been four living kangaroos as well as costumed mascots. The official colors for VMI are red, white, and yellow. Home venues to see the Keydets striving toward more championship seasons include Cameron Hall, Gray-Minor Stadium, Clark King Pool, and Alumni Memorial Field at Foster Stadium.
