North Carolina Tar Heels Teams:
The Tar Heels is the name for the 26 intercollegiate varsity sports teams for the University of North Carolina. The Tar Heels are NCAA Division 1 members and compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Since it first opened in 1795, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has had a history of championships in both individual and team sports. The 12 men’s varsity athletic teams are baseball, basketball, cross-country, fencing, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and wrestling. The 14 women’s varsity athletic teams are basketball, cross-country, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.
The Carolina blue and white fills the stands of any Tar Heels sporting event. The North Carolina Tar Heels’ mascot, Rameses, a bighorn ram, attends the University’s sporting events. Tar Heels sports take place in local venues like the Anderson Stadium, Boshamer Stadium, Carmichael Arena, Fetzer Field, Henry Stadium, and the Kenan Memorial Stadium.
