The Midshipmen, or Mids, are the nicknames for the athletic teams for the United States Naval Academy located in Annapolis, Maryland. The Midshipmen have 30 varsity sporting teams for men, women, and co-ed sports. The Naval Academy participates in NCAA’s Division 1 and competes in numerous conferences including the Patriot League, the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges, The Eastern Association of Women’s Rowing Colleges, and the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association. Co-ed varsity sports include diving, rifle and sailing. Men’s varsity sports include baseball, basketball, rowing (heavyweight and lightweight), cross-country, football, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, soccer, sprint football, squash, swimming, tennis, indoor & outdoor track, water polo, and wrestling. Women’s varsity sports include basketball, crew, cross-country, soccer, lacrosse, swimming, tennis, indoor & outdoor track, and volleyball.
Bill the Goat is the mascot for the United States Naval Academy. The chief rivalry for the Navy is the Army. Additionally, the three service academies, Navy, Army, and Air Force compete each year for the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy. The Navy’s colors are navy blue and gold. Some of the many facilities where fans can attend Midshipmen athletic events are Alumni Hall, Terwilliger Brothers Field at Max Bishop Stadium, McMullen Hockey Arena, Wesley Brown Field, Halsey Field House, and Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
