2012 North Carolina Football Program On The Rise


The North Carolina Tar Heels of the ACC finished the 2011 season with a 7-6 record, capped off with a 41-24 loss to Missouri in the AdvoCare V100 Independence Bowl. North Carolina finished the season in fifth place in the ACC’s Coastal Division, with a 3-5 conference record. Highlights of the 2011 campaign included an early-season victory over Rutgers, a 28-17 win against ACC foe Virginia, and a blowout of Wake Forest on October 29.

Among the key returning players for the Tar Heels are quarterback Bryn Renner, running back Giovani Bernard, wide receiver Erik Highsmith, left tackle James Hurst, left guard Jonathan Cooper, defensive end Kareem Martin, defensive tackle Sylvester Williams, linebacker Kevin Reddick and free safety Tre Boston.

North Carolina has several quality recruits joining the team this coming season, including offensive guard Caleb Peterson (Alabama), offensive guard Jay Jay Patterson (North Carolina), multi-position athlete James Summers (North Carolina), linebacker Shakeel Rashad (Florida) and linebacker Joseph Jackson (Florida).
