The Mustangs are the athletic teams that represent Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Southern Methodist University is a member of the NCAA Division 1 and they Mustangs compete in Conference USA and will be joining the Big East Conference in 2013. The varsity teams for men are in basketball, football, golf, soccer, swimming & diving, and tennis. The varsity teams for women are in basketball, cross-country, equestrian, golf, rowing, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.
Southern Methodist University has numerous athletic facilities to see the Mustangs competing. Some of the facilities are the Crum Basketball Center, Loyd All-Sports Center, Moody Coliseum, and Gerald J. Ford Stadium. Peruna Tonic, a black stallion Shetland pony, is SMU’s official mascot attends all Mustang home football games. SMU also has a human Mustang mascot. The official colors for the Southern Methodist Mustangs are red and blue.
