The San Francisco 49ers went 13-3 and finally returned to the playoffs in 2011. The team hopes that they can improve upon their recent success and make it back to the playoffs this season.
Alex Smith (QB) had an excellent season in 2011, passing for 3,144 yards and 17 touchdowns. He was helped by the 49ers run game, which ranked 8th in the NFL. Frank Gore (RB) returns to the backfield after running for 1,211 yards and 8 touchdowns last season. The team also has excellent weapons in Michael Crabtree (WR) and Vernon Davis (TE). The two combined for almost 1,500 yards in 2011.
The 49ers defense was dominant in 2011, ranking 16th in pass defense and 1st in run defense. Patrick Willis (LB) is one of the best young linebackers in the league. Willis had 97 tackles, 4 forced fumbles, and 1 interception in 2011. He will lead this defense again in 2012. Dashon Goldson (S) returns to the secondary after having 6 interceptions last year.
The 49ers should be primed for another great season. They hope that they can advance to the playoffs again this year.
