Barbara Cook
Barbara Cook Still The Vanguard of Theatre Ahh...the warm, sensuous, and vibrant voice of the this spendid dance movement. There are many singers and many artists around the globe, but there is none quite so respected and admired in the theatre industry than Barbara Cook. Barbara Cook is a singer and former actress who has been performing (professionally) since 1956, when she played a prominent role in the original Broadway Musical Candide, as well as the later musical The Music Man, in which she did such a great job that she earned not only a Tony award, but the admiration and recognition of the public. Now into her 80s, she is still recognized as the authority throughout the United States and North America in the interpretation and performance of the music and songs of theatre. There really is no other performer like Barbara Cook, and there likely never will be again. What makes Barbara Cook so special is not so much her singing, which in itself is spectacular, but also in the way that this warm and ultra sonoric voice combines with the way that she interprets the songs and plays in which she is performing. It is in the little things: an irregular inflection here, or a subtle extension there. There is always something fantastic and divine about the way that this lady performs, and seeing a show from this legend is more than an honor: it is a responsibility for anyone who claims to be a fan of theatre. Although her voice has changed subtly over the years, it is no less fantastic or remarkable than when she first began her amazing career in Broadway. Come and see what you are missing!
