Turner Field
Turner Field, home field to the major league baseball team Atlanta Braves has had one of the most interesting beginning. The stadium was originally built for the Olympics and later converted to the stadium as you see it today. The stadium is located at 755 Hank Aaron Drive after hall of fame right fielder Hank Aaron. The Stadium holds over 49,000 which is large by baseball standards and has a grass surface with a modern LED video screen that was installed a few years back. The park has had some major renovation in 05' and has great sight lines as well as easy access plus plenty of parking in and around the stadium.
The Atlanta Braves Have Hope In The Future
The Atlanta Braves look to redeem themselves this season, after collapsing in 2011 and not making the playoffs. The Braves have a mix of young and old players. Their future will greatly depend on how these young players develop. Two of Atlanta's biggest stars are aging. Chipper Jones (3B) is 40 this year and Dan Uggla (2B) is now 32. Still, Jones was able to bat .275 last season, and while this is below his career average of .304, it certainly is not terrible. If Jones can stay healthy, he can put up solid numbers in 2012. The best young star on the team is Jason Heyward (RF). The 22 year old will begin his third year in the major leagues and hopes to continue improving with his bat. Also, Brian McCann (C) will be solid behind the plate. Pitching may be a weak spot for the Braves this season. They have two young guys, Mike Minor (24) and Brandon Beachy (25), that they will depend on throughout the season. Minor hopes to improve after producing a 4.14 ERA in 2011. The bullpen should be strong for the Braves as they have Eric O'Flaherty, Jonny Venters, and Craig Kimbrel. If the young starting rotation can produce, then the Braves have a chance to fight in their division this year. They will also need Chipper Jones and Dan Uggla to stay healthy.
Five Incredible Atlanta Braves Memories You Will Never Forget
The Atlanta Braves have one of the more storied franchises in MLB history. Not only have they been around for ages, but they have seen the highs of success and the lows of failure up close and personal. Every Atlanta Braves fan has specific memories that stand out about their favorite team. Trying to narrow the memories down to only five is nearly impossible, but here are the five memories that I remember and loved the most in no particular order: Wohlers mows down the Indians for the Title. Winning the World Series in 1995 was certainly at the top of most any Braves great moments list, but it was the ninth inning of game six when Mark Wohlers blew away the Cleveland Indians for the championship that I remember the most. Tom Glavine had shut them down all game long, and it seemed like an explosion had to be imminent. The Indians had a great offensive team, and it seemed impossible that they could be shut down that completely. Wohlers came in and slammed the door for the championship and the celebration was on. The Slide. Sid Bream, known for many things having absolutely nothing to do with speed, was in the position of sending the Braves to the World Series or not. He was on second and his run on Francisco Cabrera's single would determine if the Braves went to the World Series or not. Since he ran like he was in mud, it was a surprise to everyone when he slid across home plate just barely in time to send the Braves to the World Series. Hammerin Hank Sets the Record. Hank Aaron hitting number 715 home runs is something that nobody that was around in 1974 will forget. You don't have to be an Atlanta Braves fan to have this awesome milestone on your list of favorite moments. The video of his titanic blast is iconic in American Pop culture. Breaking Babe Ruth's record was not always popular with everyone, but Hank always showed class and did things the right way. His type of class and dignity is missed in every single way. The Braves will always be tied to this iconic moment in baseball history. Phil Neikro shuts down the Padres. Back in 1973, the knuckleball was king in Atlanta. It seemed that the great Phil Neikro might be as likely to throw fifteen straight balls in the dirt as he was to throw a no-hitter. That knuckleball sometimes took on a life of its own. Still, for one night at least, Phil Neikro harnessed the power of the knuckleball to near perfection. The Padres never knew what hit them as the whiffed all night long trying to make solid contact on a ball that simply was unhittable. The no-hitter was one of the greatest pitching performances in Brave's history. Four Home Runs to Remember. Bob Horner was a guy that you loved to cheer for. The powerful Horner put himself in rare company in a July 6th, 1986 contest against the Montreal Expos. Horner literally erupted for four home runs in a single game and it was one of the most exciting things I remember about the eighties Braves. I was a huge Dale Murphy fan and I always felt like Horner got overlooked due to Murphy's popularity. On this night, Horner was clearly at center stage and glowing in the spotlight.
