A Streetcar Named Desire
There have been few plays in the history of Broadway that have rocked the audience such as the play A Streetcar Named Desire. Written in 1947 by Tennessee Williams, A Streetcar Named Desire is touted as one of the most influential and controversial plays in the history of Broadway. The story is one of anguish and pain. Blanche DuBois arrives one day at her sister's house in New Orleans, where she meets her sister's husband, Stanley. Stanley is very brutish and, at times, cruel, and this is exactly what attracted Stella to him in the first place. However, Blanche, coming from a high-class Old South family, cannot understand why her sister puts up with the frequent physical and emotional abuse that she has to endure! Deciding to take things into her own hands, Blanche tries to drive a wedge between Stella and her brother-in-law, to which Stanley doesn't take kindly. However, after Stanley gets his hands on some information about Blanche's dark past, he truly begins to see her fragility, and devises a new way to drive her away from their lives forever. Can Blanche really hold on to her sanity long enough to save her precious sister from the animal that is her husband? The author of the play, Tennessee Williams, received a Pulitzer Prize for Drama one year after the play was written for the outstanding nature of the story. Being highly controversial at the time for having included homosexuality and such bold themes of rape, the play really set the acting world on fire. Now you have the chance to experience what so deftly impacted the lives of so many so long ago in the Broadway remake of A Streetcar Named Desire.
