A Christmas Carol to Woo Your Heart 

What tale of love and penance can make our hearts turn ever so much as the instant classic tale, "A Christmas Carol?" Written by stunning Victorian-era author Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol is one of those stories that pulls on the heart strings, and doesn't let go for a long time. The story of A Christmas Carol takes place in Industrial Age London, England, when many families were impoverished by the changing economic conditions and moving into the larger cities in search of work. However, often when families arrived to take work in the factories, they were greeted by terrible working conditions, such as incessant danger, long hours, and poor pay. This resulted in a very impoverished working-class, and is the basis for the story.   When Ebenezer Scrooge rudely refuses his nephew's dinner invitation, declines to give to a fund-raiser which is trying to get enough money for food for the poor, and treats his one and only worker with disgust and disdain, he becomes the target of a ghostly conspiracy...to save his life-after-death! Not at all fond of Christmas, which he refers to as "humbug," Ebenezer settles into his quarters to spend Christmas night all alone. However, when he is about to go to sleep, the apparition of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, appears to warn his of his indiscretions. He is then visited by different ghosts and spirits throughout the night, each trying to show to Ebenezer the true meaning of Christmas. Will Ebenezer change his ways in time to save his soul?   Perhaps no other Christmas story brings back our childhood memories of the true meaning of Christmas so much as does A Christmas Carol.
