American popular rock band 311 ("three-eleven") was formed in 1998 by guitarist Jim Watson, lead singer and guitarist Nick Hexum, bassist Aaron "P-Nut" Wills and drummer Chad Sexton.  The band's image and sound have evolved over the years, and they lost band members and gained some new.  Today the band members include Nick Hexum, who sings lead vocals and plays rhythm guitar, Doug "SA" Martinez, rapper, back-up vocalist and DJ, lead guitarist Tim Mahoney, bassist Aaron "P-Nut" Wills and drummer, percussionist and programmer Chad Sexton.  311 has also had many notable guest musicians appear with them at concerts, festivals and other appearances.  Most interestingly, in 2001 Shaqille O'Neal appeared with 311 to play his song "Psycho" at the 2001 KROQ Weenie Roast.
311 has released ten studio albums, four DVDs, one live album, and four compilation albums. Their 1995 self-titled album went triple-platinum, reaching #12 on the Billboard 200 chart.  "Down," a single from the 1995 album, made it to the top of the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks in 1996.  Their next album, Transistor, which was released in 1997, went platinum.  Soundsystem and From Chaos, 311's next two albums which were relased in 1999 and 2001 respectively, went gold, as did their 2004 greatest hits album.  Universal Pulse, 311's latest album which was released in 2011, has sold 8.5 million copies in the United States.
