That PBS special described above is the identical title of soundtrack that shows up within the discography. 1964 the Tribute happens to be featured on Entertainment Tonight, CNN, PM Magazine, the United States Network or USA Network and also the Nashville Network.
1964 the Tribute shoots for authenticity of their portrayal of the Beatles, although not everything they are doing is identical. Two areas that differ is the deep sound and set length. Mark Benson, who plays John Lennon for the band, states that in the original Beatles live performances in the sixties, the fans were lucky to hear this music live so we are just trying to recreate the performance and make it better. They credit the Beatles with changing the landscape of the sound-reinforcement industry, stated Benson. "In those days they'd have these little loudspeakers that you simply could not hear anything. The way in which concerts were performed needed to be transformed. Benson states that fans who saw the initial shows spot the difference."Individuals will reach us and say, 'I saw the Beatles in '64 and also the only difference is I'm able to hear you,'" states Benson. The band's mission is to precisely recreate the 1964 Beatle invasion of the USA. They play some of the early Beatles music, with a few of the middle years tossed in. The "concept is to carry out a program that provides you with a concept of what it really was like to see the Beatles when they were touring back then," he said. 1964 was formed in 1984. The soundtrack was released along with three other albums, including their live album, All You Need is Live!
1964 the Tribute has been especially recognized among the college campus community. The band was voted "Contemporary Music Artists of the Year" by the National Association of Campus Activities, as well as "Best Contemporary Act" and "Best Major Concert Act" by Campus Activities Today Magazine. They were also voted Campus Entertainers of the Year" by the Canadian Association for Campus Activities.
The group tries to portray The Beatles as accurately as possible. The only major changes they have made to the Beatles' original concerts are the sound quality. The sound quality in the original Beatles concerts was dismal as The Beatles played with small speakers on stage that amplified the sound only slightly. Today, 1964 the Tribute plays with a standard quality sound system. The other change from the original Beatles concerts is that, while The Beatles performed two 30 minute sets and no encores, 1964 the Tribute performs two 45 minute sets. They originally played thirty minute sets, but this was not received well by the audience.
